My What A Difference A Day Can Make

Since we last visited the Sheetrock Finisher was here over the weekend and completed his job taping, mudding, and stamping the ceiling.
This morning started with staining .  One more side to go.

While Doug and Brandon worked on the outside,
Randall worked on the inside painting. On to the next step tomorrow. In the next couple of days they should be cutting through to the back bedroom and starting the flooring. Mom's Space is moving right along!

A Busy Day!

Tuesday started bright and early, I just got Molly and Anna sequestered for the day, when the Roofers arrived, followed shortly by the Sheetrockers and the builders. Needless to say it was busy around here yesterday! The Roofers started on the new section  of the house. The builders worked on attaching the Cedar Siding

while the Sheetrockers worked on the inside hanging the sheetrock.

Much progress was made today! While everyone was working outside, I worked on my Apple Spice Quilt attaching the last two borders. The top is now finished.

And I am on to my next quilt. Even tho these quilt tops need to be quilted I have the need to piece another top. Quilting will have to wait for another day.

A Whirlwind of a Week!

Let me see if I can get this straight, so much has happened this week. The plumbers were here, the tub is in place. The house is now in the drythe roofing boards are down. The windows came on Thursday, so the opening were cut The electrician attached the outlet boxes and pulled the wires. The insulation was put in place and the windows were installed. Plumbers returned and installed all the pipes in the new section.

Today the roofers arrived bright and early this morning to start removing the shingles on the older section of the house in order  to complete the roofing of the entire house. Hopefully tomorrow I will have pictures of a new roof, or at least part of a roof.

Mom and Sheri came for a visit for a couple of days, so they could see the progress of Mom's space. We so enjoyed their company. I think Mom is getting excited about the changes. It makes it a little easier when you can see in person the work that is being done. Pictures just tell part of the story.

In the meantime piecing continues on my Apple Spice Quilt.  When we last visited, I had completed my four patches then I sewed them to the tan blocks like this and then pressedeach block , two of these blocks were then sewn together making this block. This block was then sewn to three other blocks making this block Now this block was paired with this block And the quilt top now looks like this On to the borders next. Now when I say it has been a whirlwind of a week, I guess you see what I mean........

The Truss Are Set -- And a New Quilt Is Started

After a couple of days off due to rain, Randall, Doug, and Brandon are back at work building.

The boards are down on the front porch now.Soon there will be railing.

After working a couple of days between rain showers the truss are installed. While tying the new portion with the older, yet another wasp nest was extracted. Thank goodness it was empty of wasp. The spray George used a couple of years ago really did its job.

While enjoying the rain, I decided to work on a quilt I cut out many months ago called Apple Spice. My friend, Carol, made this quilt a couple years ago and I just feel in love with the design. So I decided I would make one for myself. The first thing I started on was a block called "Snowball". To make this block, I started with an assortment of tan fabrics cut into 8.5" squares and sewed assorted red 2.5" squares in each corner of the larger block. Then I trimmed and pressedeach block making a total of 60 blocks that look like this when they are finished.

The next step I did was to sew assorted brown and red 1.5" strips of fabric together with assorted tan stripsand made 70 strip sets. These strip sets were cut into 896 1.5" segments

and were then sewn into 448 four patch units.

Nothing is wasted when it comes to fabric at my house, the triangles cut from the corners of the Snowball will make a great start to a new quilt!

Check back for  updates on the progress of Mom's New Space and the progress of my Apple Spice quilt project.

The Rafters Are In Place and the Front Porch is Started

Builders were treated with cooler weather today. Temperatures stayed under 90 today and we had a breeze most of the day. Builders jumped right in this morning and added the last green board and once the lumber was delivered they

started working on the raftersThey worked on the rafters most of the day, but was able to complete the jobAnd started on Mom's Front PorchI thought I would share just a few of the things Mom might get the chance to see once she moves up here.Perhaps a rainbow after a summer shower, (back when it rained) or a fawn checking out the flower gardensOr maybe turkeys taking a stroll through the yard. She just might get a chance to see an Owl perched on a limb right outside her door.Or the deer crossing the property
just after the first snow. You never know what you might see when you look out our windows. Hummmmm what will tomorrow bring?
